Chelsea Truck Company has confirmed its first conversion programme built around the Suzuki Jimny, applying its design language to the 5 Door Nomade for a strictly numbered run of vehicles.

The Suzuki Jimny 5 Door Nomade Heritage Edition draws on the wider retro 4x4 revival, and specifically on the chrome-heavy trucks that defined American off-road styling through the 1970s and 80s. It is a look Chelsea Truck Company has explored at length across its Heritage Remastered programme. This is the first time it has been brought to the Jimny.

A New Kind of Jimny Deserved a New Kind of Treatment

The arrival of the five-door has changed the Jimny's standing in the UK market entirely. The original three-door was always admired, but it asked for compromise in return for its charm. The extended wheelbase and the additional set of doors have removed that compromise without softening the character that made the car a cult object in the first place.

The Rear

At the back, the standard lighting is replaced by two large circular LED units. It is a distinctly retro gesture, and a decisive one, moving the Jimny away from its factory design and towards the rounder, simpler lighting favoured by the classic 4x4s of the era. The change alters the car's presence in the mirror of the vehicle in front, which is precisely the point.

Bumpers and Wheels

Front and rear bumpers are replaced entirely, both finished in chrome. The car then sits on a set of 16-inch chrome-styled steel wheels, a choice that resists the obvious route of a large alloy and instead commits fully to the heritage-led direction. Steel wheels on a chromed truck are a period-correct decision, and it holds the whole design together.
