Chelsea Truck Co’s One-Off Defender Steals the 2017 London Motor Show
Mar 23, 2020
Production of the iconic Land Rover Defender ended in 2016, closing a 68-year run that produced more than two million vehicles since the first Series 1 left the factory.
To mark the end of this legendary model, the London Motor Show once again asked Afzal Kahn to create a special limited-edition build. The result is the London Motor Show Edition, a Defender shaped by years of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Finished in French Racing Blue and unveiled to the public at the 2017 show, this Defender 90 makes a strong first impression. Chelsea Truck Company’s signature wide arches with integrated vents and bolt apertures, along with the X-Lander grille, give the vehicle a bold presence.
Additional features include a stainless steel front bumper with Tron Ring lights, an aluminium sump guard, Shadow Chrome headlights, mesh bonnet vents, toughened rubber mud flaps, dark privacy glass, Chelsea Truck Company branding and a spare wheel cover to complete the look.
The mechanical upgrades continue underneath. The suspension has been lifted and fitted with uprated gas shock absorbers and a new steering damper. 9x20-inch Mondial alloy wheels in Volcanic Black, wrapped in 275/55/20 tyres, sharpen both handling and stance.
Power comes from a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine capable of reaching 170 BHP, supported by Chelsea Truck Company’s own power module that connects directly to the engine’s OEM points.
Inside, the cabin features heated GTB sports seats in quilted and perforated leather for the driver and passenger, with the same detailing carried through to the second row so all five occupants can travel comfortably.
Beyond its design and performance, the 2017 London Motor Show Edition also holds strong investment value. According to CAP valuation experts, it shows around a 40% increase in residual value compared with a standard Defender.
