The Jeep Wrangler CJ400 That Loved Me

Adorned with every extra under the sun, the Jeep Wrangler CJ400 I had just driven was a thunderous hunk of hyper-intelligent American muscle that I was rather sad to let go of.

Please allow me to elaborate......

A few weeks ago, Afzal Kahn asked me to drop a friend off at his home. I informed the big boss that I will gladly drop his friend off in my as of yet, un-named car. Kahn simply gave me the golden ticket, the keys to his very own vehicle in this instance.

The car in question was car was a Flame Red Jeep Wrangler CJ400.

I was a bit apprehensive at the outset, but little did I realise that later on in the day, I would have some trouble letting the vehicle go.....

There was a point, not at all long ago, when before you set off in a car for the first time it would have been prudent to figure out its sensitivities – the biting point, the feistiness of the accelerator, the weight of the steering and so forth.

I had expected the same would be the case with the CJ400. However, despite being bigger than most cars, it is astonishingly straightforward to drive. By the time I’d driven to the end of my road, I had already found the steering is light but composed, its accelerator is more calculated than a physics trigonometry student’s homework, and that it glides over a road surface with virtual ease.

Out towards the dual carriageway, the CJ400 moves from easy to exciting faster than you can say Chelsea Truck Company. The 5-speed gearbox is seamless and snappy, and thanks to the snorting 280bhp bull raging under its bonnet, it can go from 0-60 in 8.9 seconds with the grace and poise of a car far smaller.

And then when you find a tight bend coming up on you, slows down with confidence.

Shortly thereafter, I turned into a number of side streets and in the midst of a full blown conversation on philosophy, faith and Afzal Kahn himself; I bid the rugged framed one a fond farewell and head off back to Kahn H.Q.

Granted, the vehicle is no sports car but it is a lot of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even though I didn’t know what to make of the sight of a fellow motorist, at a set of traffic lights, looking on in awe, with his head seemingly moving in all directions, whilst I just minded my own business.

Probably the most unexpected thing about the whole journey though, was that I wanted to keep going, which is pretty cool. But truth be told, I was sad to give the keys back to Mr. Kahn. Who knows, maybe one day I will invest in this fine vehicle.

If red is not your colour, you can have it in the colour of your choice. The Chelsea Truck Company’s signature horizontal LED running lights are a nice touch. Towards the rear, a quad crosshair exhaust system and a set of Kahn wheels look the business.
