Kahn® Design has announced the Type 52 Series 2, the latest evolution of one of the most recognised wheel designs in the brand's recent catalogue. Available to pre-order soon in both 22-inch and 23-inch Forged configurations, the new wheel honours the design principles that established the original Type 52 while introducing a sharper, more motorsport-informed aesthetic through an entirely new turbofan outer architecture.
A Design That Earned Its Place
When the Type 52 debuted on the Range Rover Sport SVR back in 2018, it arrived with purpose. Developed initially for Range Rover and Defender platforms, the wheel built its reputation on a distinctive five-spoke architecture defined by directional geometry, considered negative space and a layered spoke arrangement that gave the impression of movement even at a standstill. Over the years, it became one of the most identifiable designs across Kahn® Design's luxury SUV programmes. That kind of longevity is not given. It is earned.
Evolution, Not Replacement
The Type 52 Series 2 has been developed as the natural successor to that legacy. Kahn® Design's approach was deliberate: rather than erasing the visual identity that made the original compelling, the studio has preserved it entirely at the wheel's core. The directional spoke geometry, the proportions, and the visual tension that defined the original remain untouched. What changes is everything around it.
The defining development is the introduction of a directional turbofan-inspired outer ring, a feature that forges a stronger connection to motorsport and aerodynamic engineering. Turbofan-influenced design has featured across the broader KAHN® portfolio before, from early Flying Huntsman programmes through to the G06 and the more recent Hammerhead series. The Type 52 Series 2, however, represents the most integrated interpretation of the concept to date. The directional outer structure does not sit in isolation. It works in direct harmony with the directional character of the Type 52 centre section, creating a unified visual flow from hub to rim that feels resolved rather than assembled.
Faster, Lighter, More Purposeful
The result is a wheel that reads faster and more purposeful in equal measure. The interaction between the directional centre spokes and the aerodynamic outer ring amplifies the sensation of forward motion while reinforcing a performance-oriented character. Aesthetically, the design draws on historic motorsport wheel architecture, where aerodynamic surfaces and mechanical function combined to produce forms that were immediately recognisable. That lineage is legible here.
Finished exclusively in Satin Black with Raw Aluminium detailing and KAHN | Forged branding machined directly into the wheel's face, the Type 52 Series 2 delivers a contemporary technical aesthetic that reads equally well on a luxury SUV or a performance-focused build. The forged construction remains fundamental to the programme, a continued statement of intent from Kahn Design regarding engineering quality and premium manufacturing.
The Next Chapter for KAHN | FORGED
Developed primarily for L663 Defender and Range Rover applications, the Type 52 Series 2 continues more than a decade of evolution within the KAHN | FORGED wheel programme. Its combination of directional surfacing, motorsport influence and aerodynamic detailing marks a new chapter in a design lineage that has rarely stood still.
The launch also signals the next phase of the wider KAHN | FORGED portfolio. Further forged wheel developments are already confirmed for release, expanding the brand's growing catalogue across Defender, Range Rover and additional vehicle platforms.
