If you happen to be in Yorkshire, visiting the Kahn Laboratories is a must. It\'s nothing like your average car factory as it is quiet, clean and full of people still dedicated to the art of assembling cars by hand.
Offering a number of off-the-shelf packages as well as the facility to design and create bespoke vehicles to the client’s needs, Kahn pride themselves on the OEM quality of their products.
I visited recently to see one of the many cars being prepped for unveiling. As we entered the workspace, we saw a Chelsea Truck Company Land Rover Defender 90 waiting for its new interior, an intricate and meticulous process.
The sheer size of the Chelsea Truck Company Defender ensured it dominated the entire area. An imposing silhouette and 20” wheels suggest whoever commissioned it will soon be enjoying one of the most luxurious vehicles in the world.
As we watched trim shop manager Mantas stitch seat covers for the car, it was clear that the devil really is in the detail. As a customer you can specify any combination of material, colour, stitching and piping you like, the sky is the limit when it comes to your design.
Production manager, Gary explained to us that the fit and finish of their work had to be representative (or better) than the original bodywork and interior: “If somebody is spending nearly a hundred thousand pounds on a vehicle, it is our duty to ensure that our work is to a standard which not only compliments the original design but improves it, both aesthetically and functionally.”
And whilst Chelsea Truck Company Defenders are made much more aggressive with bolt on arches and custom grilles, it’s in keeping with the original lines and styling they were born with. Speaking with the team at The Chelsea Truck Company it is clear that the goal is to work with the manufacturer’s designs, improving certain areas but leaving others when nothing more needs to be done.
Factory collection
Many of our customers dream of collecting their new Chelsea Truck in person. They want to be there when the car of their dreams leaves the factory. This way, they can be the first to take their vehicle to its rightful place: on the road.
Today, most Chelsea Truck Company vehicles are available here in our main factory in Bradford, where the infamous design studio is located.
