The powerfully built, modern stance of the Chelsea Truck Company Defender Wide Track has spawned many a life like Defender model.
One model maker to put his hand to a Defender model is Alexey Savchenko who hails from Moscow.
The Russian Chelsea Truck Company and Project Kahn enthusiast first came across the Kahn brand when a friend ordered a number of accessories for his Range Rover, and the rest, as they say, is history.
We caught up with the man himself to find out more.
Q.What inspired you to build the Kahn Defender model?
A. I have always been interested in cars and gradually it turned into a hobby. When I launched set out on this project, I set out to find a truly outstanding vehicle to replicate.
I found exactly what I was looking for on the Project Kahn web site and it was then that I decided to create a vehicle as inspirational as the real life vehicle.
Q. How long how you been working on the model and when do you envisage the project will reach its conclusion?
A. I have been working on my model for one year. A lot of time was spent on the successful delivery of this project. All of the parts used to make this model were manufactured abroad in different countries and any mistake delayed the process.
I think this project is an example to fellow model makers on how to achieve a truly remarkable end product.
Q. What would you say has been the most challenging aspect during the model making process?
A. It was really difficult to make the Kahn Chelsea Truck Company model. It was not easy to reproduce such an iconic vehicle, as you can appreciate; the attention to detail has to be of a standard that Afzal Kahn himself would be proud of.
Q. Is this a remote controlled model?
A. Yes, this model is a remote controlled model. I have taken the Defender out for a shoot many times, and the results have been phenomenal.
Q. How long did it take to design the interior seating, they look great!
A. I agree, they look great thanks to a friend who spared some time to help me. For an entire month, we tried to make them look as life like as possible. We created them from scratch and tried to shape them into life-like seats.
Q. Why made you place a figure of Sylvester Stallone in the driving seat?
A. We selected the figure because it fitted in perfectly. The choice of drivers was between Stallone and pale vampire. Of course, I decided that the charismatic Stallone fits in much better. I also selected the heroine from the Portal 2 game as Stallone’s co partner.
