Range Rovers have always been a great platform for conversions and enhancements and one firm you simply can’t ignore is Kahn Design. Range Rover World Editor, Mike Gould took a trip to find out more about the company, its products and its philosophy and spoke exclusively to its founder, Afzal Kahn.
‘The headquarters of Kahn Design is hard to miss’, comments Gould in his article.
‘In a road of otherwise unremarkable car dealerships, including conveniently one for Land Rover. With Range Rovers, Ferraris, not to mention the odd Bugatti Veyron around, this is no open concourse but what appears to be a stylish glass-fronted bunker protected by a high steel fence and some of the best security you’ll find outside of a nuclear facility.
‘Kahn Design has been around for a while, with its first Range Rover Design emerging in 2000. Now it’s grown to a company employing 80 people with a reported output of 400 cars a year. Customers include media personalities from all around the world – Justin Beiber was recently spotted emerging from a Kahn Range Rover in California. It’s looking at emerging markets too – the website has a Chinese translation feature and Kahn employs staff with a Chinese background to keep up to date with the market as well as to manage procurement from the country. It’s an impressive detail touch.
‘Everything is designed in house, often by Afzal Kahn himself and the company uses similar high tech systems to those found in company design studios to digitise profiles and ensure correct fit. They’ve even got a modelling studio where clay models of new bumpers and body kits are crafted. Kahn Design is passionate about using the best quality suppliers for his components and Afzal Kahn is a keen supporter of British industry although like most successful entrepreneurs, he recognises that cost is always a factor. Kahn Design isn’t all about cars though – it also offers a series of watches and is set to branch out into other areas of fashion’
