Afzal Kahn at the Chelsea Auto Legends Show
4th Sep 2012
Boasting a dedicated supercar display and a spectacular supercar rally – the third Chelsea Auto Legends proved a huge hit with petrol heads.
More than 10,000 visitors packed into the one-day classic racing spectacle, held in the grounds of London\'s Royal Hospital Chelsea on 2 September to take in the 500+ strong turnout of cars.
As ever Afzal Kahn joined in the fun with his Bugatti Veyron and Rolls Royce dominating the show’s display, but there were plenty of side-line attractions, with standouts including the ten-strong turnout from the Slowly Sideways rally enthusiasts club, a 1983 La Sarthe circuit-winning ‘Rothmans’ Porsche 956 and and one of the 2003 winning Bentley Speed 8 team cars.
The show celebrated speed in a big way too, with a full scale model of the the Bloodhound SSC – the Land Speed Record contender that LSR guru RIchard Noble is masterminding in an attempt to break the 1000mph mark at the hands of current LSR-holder Andy Greene later next year - and a display of dragsters, including the recreation of Sydney Allard\'s 354 Chrysler Hemi.
The show cemented its status of ‘biggest show on wheels in London’ out onto the capital’s streets as the supercar rally ended the show.
Afzal Kahn’s Bugatti Veyron and Rolls Royce were joined by an explosion of V8s and V12s, cloaked in both old and new metal: gathered in orderly rows as the convoy suddenly leapt from traffic light to traffic light, weaving among buses, taxis and preoccupied Londoners suddenly smiling; the cars chased each other along a route.A video of the supercar run can be viewed here
